Bikram Yoga
Bikram Yoga is a set sequence of 26 Hatha Yoga postures and two breathing exercises in a heated room for 90 minutes ideal for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike.
The practice was developed in Calcutta, India between the 1930s and 1960s by Bishnu Ghosh, younger brother of Paramahansa Yogananda. Ghosh mentored a number of students including Buddha Bose and Bikram Choudhury. Bikram was initially sent to Japan in the early 1970s to share the benefits of this yoga sequence and shortly thereafter he went to America where the original hot yoga class we know today was established.
It is the precise sequence, teacher education, method of teaching, principles and practices that work symbiotically to create the transformative benefits of a Bikram Yoga class.
Bikram Yoga studios around the world have always been independently owned and operated. Teachers have trained with Bikram’s Yoga College of India and are authorised to bring the class to local communities. It is important to note that studios are not franchised or controlled in any way by Bikram Choudhury.
We are proud to continue to share our passion for Bikram Yoga which remains the original therapeutic hot yoga sequence, accessible to all ages and bodies.
